Age of Innocence

there sits a young girl
with hands folded tight
a shrine of innocence
to which the world
should be molded

her large child eyes
hold a sacred
sage light; telling secrets
the wise transcended
with age

within the small heart
beats the kindred prayer
her ancestors searched for
-it ever hindered
their higher call

to every other beholder
she’s seen with charmed pity
but she’s wiser then all
with wisdom past her years
and her childlike purity
